Christian Santana Prinz

(Born in Mexico City – 1975)

Entry in 1995 to the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving, (ENPEG) “La Esmeralda” (INBA); In 1998, while still a student, he won a Young Creators of the State of Guanajuato scholarship from the State Institute of Culture; He completed his master’s degree in visual arts in 2011 at the Former National School of Plastic Arts, now the Faculty of Arts and Design of the UNAM.

 

He did professional stage/costume painting internships in Berlin (2004) at the Carnival of Cultures Karneval der Kulturen/Werkstatt der Kulturen and the play The Chalk Circle by Klabund (Alfred Georg Hermann Henschke) in collaboration with Theater Gruppe Molino. He exhibited painting in independent spaces such as Haus am Lützowplatz (Tiergarten), Nachtgalerie Azul (Kreuzberg) and Studio 04 (Mitte).

In 2006 he won a three-month artistic residency at the Künstlerhaus Salzburg, support received by FONCA through its exchange program and artistic residencies between Mexico and Austria; and in 2009 she won another artist residency at the Banff Centre, also supported by FONCA through its exchange program and artistic residencies between Mexico and Canada.

 

He complemented his studies in 2010 with master classes for illustrators at the International Children’s and Youth Book Fair/CONACULTA/ENPEG “La Esmeralda” (CDMX); and in 2012 with a diploma in Photographic Project Development in Generator Photographic Projects/Espacio Freelance, (Tijuana), support received by FAD/UNAM.

 

In recent years (2017-2020) he has done artist residencies in Ålvik, Norway; Bremerhaven, Germany; Marnay-sur-Seine, France; Pilsen, Czech Republic; Sofia, Bulgaria and Berlin. She currently lives and paints in Querétaro.

Recent group exhibitions:

León Trotsky House Museum, (CdMx); the La Esmeralda Gallery (INBA); main gallery of the Old Academy of San Carlos (UNAM); Huixquilucan Museum, Edo Méx; Chopo University Museum (CdMx); the UNAM/Juriquilla Academic Cultural Center (Qro); in 48th Cervantino International Festival, (Guanajuato); CAMAC Center d’Art Marnay Art Center (France), at the international artist residency Kunstnarhuset Messen, (Norway); at the Festival of Lights, Theatrales Lichterspektakel Bremerhaven, (Germany) and at the World of CO/nOva art space (Sofia, Bulgaria).
